Modified On Sep 21, 2021 11:50 AM By Gaurav Sadanand for Yamaha R15 V4

Receives styling revisions and mechanicals updates for 2022

Three variants on offer: R15 V4, R15M, and a MotoGP Edition All variants feature a premium USD fork, sleeker bodywork and a Bluetooth enabled console. The R15M, Racing Blue and MotoGP variant get traction control and a quickshifter as standard. The engine makes marginally less power than before.

The entry-level supersport segment just got more interesting thanks to the launch of the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 4.0. There are two variants on offer: the standard R15 Version 4.0 and the more sophisticated R15M. You have four colours to choose from Metallic Red and Dark Knight prices at Rs 1,67,800 and Rs 1,68,800 respectively. The more premium Racing Blue and R15M will set you back by Rs 1,72,800, while the latter costs Rs 1,77,800 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). To put things into perspective, the base variant is Rs 10,200 costlier than the outgoing standard version. However, the extra moolah gets you better styling and more premium mechanicals which in our opinion should make the spend worthwhile.

Model Price (ex-showroom, Delhi)
R15 Metallic Red Rs 1,67,800
R15 Dark Knight Rs 1,68,800
R15 Racing Blue Rs 1,72,800
R15M Rs 1,77,800
R15 Monster Energy Rs 1,79,800

YZF-R15 Version 4:

You can also opt for an exclusive Monster Energy MotoGP (Rs 1,79,800 ex-Delhi) inspired livery that will be available in limited numbers. The styling receives a massive overhaul as well. The front fascia which features a Bi-functional LED headlamp flanked by LED DRLs is inspired by the YZF-R7.

The entire fairing has been redesigned for better aerodynamics and the fuel tank's been tweaked too. Also new are the rear quarter panels which are slimmer and sleeker than before. Other notable features include a new heat shield for the exhaust, and a cast aluminum swingarm.

The new quickshifter and traction control system and are exclusive to the  R15M and Racing Blue colour scheme. You could, however, opt for the quickershifter on the standard variants as an optional extra.

Its feature list also includes a side stand engine cut off switch and an all-new full-digital instrument console with Yamaha's Y-Connect app and two display modes (Street and Track). This gives customers access to features like lap timer, gear position indicator, call/message alerts, mobile battery status, connection status, average fuel efficiency and last parked location. Apart from this you can also view information like instantaneous fuel economy, intake air temperature, Eco indicator, degree of throttle opening and rate of acceleration.

YZF-R15M

The new YZF-R15 M features an exclusive R1M-inspired silver-and-black paint scheme with blue highlights. The bike also gets premium touches like 3D logos, top caps for the fork, a premium seat, golden coloured brake calipers, a grey swingarm and a grey heat shield for the exhaust. These are the only aspects that differentiate it from the Racing Blue livery.

Updated Hardware:

The bike's hardware receives a massive boost as well thanks to the addition of a USD fork. While the international-spec R15 V3 came with USDs, the outgoing Indian model had to do with telescopic units to save costs. But that's no longer the case. What's also changed is the engine tune. While the R15 continues to use the same 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, it has been detuned to produce 18.4PS, 0.2 less than the current-gen V3. Torque on the other hand remains unchanged at 14.2Nm.

Though the R15 V4 doesn’t have a direct rival in our market, it will take on the upcoming KTM RC 125 and the KTM RC 200.
