Modified On Jun 13, 2024 05:05 PM By Govind for Brixton Crossfire 500

Does the upcoming Brixton Crossfire 500 XC have what it takes to go up against the Triumph Scrambler 400 X?

Brixton Motorcycles is planning on entering the Indian market with 4 offerings: Crossfire 500X, Crossfire 500 XC, Cromwell 1200 And Cromwell 1200X. The Crossfire XC is an interesting offering as it is a scrambler-style motorcycle. The closest competitor it will have is the Triumph Scrambler 400 X. Here’s how both compare:

Engine

When looking at the engine, power and performance it is clear that the Brixton Crossfire 500 XC has a larger and more powerful engine on paper. It produces 7.5PS more and 6.5Nm more than the Scrambler 400X.

The Brixton’s motor is also a parallel twin, which in theory should make for a more refined engine.

Looking at the underpinnings, both the bikes are at par when it comes to aspects such as suspension and brakes but the Crossfire has slightly wider tyres which should translate to better grip because of the larger contact patch.

The Crossfire 500 X which is the XC’s cafe racer sibling comes with spoke wheels with tubeless tyres, whereas the Crossfire 500 XC gets tubed tyres. This is a bit of a letdown and could result in tyre puncture being harder to fix.

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X comes with alloy wheels which does make it more convenient and easier to live with.

When looking at the dimensions, there are only small differences between the two. The seat height is almost the same, and a 4mm increase won’t make much of a difference, but the Crossfire 500 XC is 10kg heavier than the Scrambler 400 X and this will be felt.

The Crossfire 500 XC gets a negatively lit LCD instrument console whereas the Scrambler 400 gets a semi-digital one with an analogue speedometer.

When looking at the electronic rider aids, the Scrambler 400 X has more to offer. It comes with a traction control system and also Switchable ABS, which allows the rider to switch off the rear wheel ABS, this will be quite useful when riding off-road.

Verdict

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is sold at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2,64,496 and for the price, it definitely is a value for money proposition.

The Brixton Crossfire 500 XC is yet to be launched and the bike will be coming to India as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units and will likely be more expensive. For perspective, the Crossfire 500 XC comes at an ex-showroom price that is around Rs 6.91 lakh in Europe.

When looking at what both bikes have to offer, it is clear that the Brixton Crossfire 500 XC offers better performance on paper and the bike also has a few advantages such as wider tyres. But the Scrambler 400 X makes up for this in terms of features it has to offer and how competitively it is priced.
