BS6 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V: Same Price Other Options

The new BS6 Apache RTR 200 4V sees a steep price hike over its BS4 predecessor and price-wise brings it closer to other capable BS4 motorcycles. Here are the options

The new BS6 Apache RTR 200 4v now comes with an updated motor and nifty features. The new motor now delivers 20.5PS and 16.8Nm. These new developments hike up its price by Rs 9,450 to Rs 1,24,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This price update now puts the Apache in contention with larger and more powerful motorcycles. Here are some motorcycles you could look at instead of the BS6 Apache RTR 200 4V. 

Yamaha FZ25 (Rs 1.34 lakh):

The FZ25 looks like a large motorcycle thanks to its beefy bodywork. It packs in a larger 249cc air-cooled motor but delivers a modest 20.9PS and 20Nm.  The Extra torque makes the FZ25 quite fun to ride in the city. It gets an LED headlamp but offers poor illumination. Even the digital instrument console feels dated compared to the current crop of Yamaha motorcycles. Nevertheless, the FZ25 remains the most affordable 250cc motorcycle you can buy and is good value. 

KTM 125 Duke (Rs 1.32 lakh):

The 125 Duke is the most affordable ticket to owning a KTM. The 125 Duke gets the same bodywork, features and even underpinnings as the larger 200 Duke but comes with a smaller motor. So you get a more accessible but dynamically-capable KTM. The 124cc liquid-cooled four-valve motor makes the 125 Duke the most powerful 125cc motorcycle sold in India. It delivers 14.5PS and 12Nm and gets a 6-speed gearbox. The KTM 125 Duke is a hit among the younger crowd due to its looks, accessible performance and the fact that it is the most affordable KTM. 

Royal Enfield Bullet 350 (Rs 1.21 lakh): 

The Bullet 350 is a proper retro alternative to the other modern motorcycles here. It offers the same timeless design as yesteryears Bullets and to a degree uses the same motor. Its 346cc pushrod-operated air-cooled motor delivers 20.07PS and 28Nm of torque. For around Rs 9,000 more you can opt for the Bullet 350 ES which gets brighter colours and chrome trimmings. Go for this if you fancy an old-school riding experience. 

Yamaha MT-15: Rs 1.36 lakh

The more affordable and comfortable option to Yamaha’s R15 V3.0, the MT-15 makes far more sense in the real world than its faired cousin. It looks the part too and gets sharp lines and minimalistic bodywork. Underneath though, the MT-15 shares the same underpinnings as the R15 V3.0 save for the box section swingarm and dual-channel ABS. Instead, it gets a tubular swingarm and single-channel ABS to save costs. Performance remains the same and the MT-15s 155cc liquid-cooled single cylinder motor makes 19.3 PS and 14.7Nm of torque. It is one of the best options out there if you are looking for a powerful and dynamically capable entry-level naked motorcycle. 

TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 (Rs 1.2 lakh):

Consider this only if you have access to ethanol fuel. The TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 is essentially the BS4 Apache RTR 200 that has been converted to run on ethanol. At 21PS and 18.1Nm, its 198cc motor delivers similar performance to its petrol powered counterpart . Like the RTR 200, it also gets a 5-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. TVS claims that the ethanol powered RTR 200 offers better driveability, faster throttle response and reduced emissions. So if you can procure ethanol, you are looking at considerably lower running costs compared to any motorcycle in this list.
