BS6 vs BS4 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V: What’s Different

Besides a new BS6 compliant motor, the new Apache RTR 200 gets a revised look and new features. Here’s what you should know

TVS has launched the new BS6 compliant Apache RTR 200 4V and Apache RTR 160 4V. The larger Apache RTR 200 is a lot different when compared to its BS4 predecessor as the changes are not just limited to the BS6 motor. Here are the key differences.

Updated bodywork

The new Apaches get a fresh face thanks to a new LED headlamp. The rest of the bodywork remains the same except for new mirrors and graphics. It also gets new coded keys that are programmed to each individual bike and are difficult to duplicate.

Gets new features

The RTR 200 also gets a one-touch start system and low RPM assist which TVS calls GTT, or Glide Through Traffic. This setup holds and if required, bumps up revs at slow speed throttle openings to prevent the motorcycle from stalling. TVS recently introduced Bluetooth connectivity called SmartXonnect. It now comes standard on the RTR 200. Even the rear Pirelli radial tyre which was an option earlier is now standard fitment on the BS6 model.

New BS6 motor saps performance

Well, not power at least. It remains the same as the previous Apache’s 20.5PS. However, torque takes a considerable hit and has dropped by 1.3Nm to 16.8Nm. This was kind of expected as the new emission norms have made it exceedingly difficult for manufacturers to keep up with performance and pass BS6 norms at the same time. Unlike the BS4 Apaches which were available in carburetted and FI trim, the BS6 Apache RTR 200 4V is only available in FI trim.

Pricing sees a significant hike

The new BS6 Apache RTR 200 4V now costs Rs 1,24,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). That’s a hike of Rs 9,450 over the previous top-spec fuel-injected  BS4 Apache RTR 200 4V. Do all these changes warrant a hike? We will be answering your questions soon after we ride the new BS6 motorcycles. Stay tuned.
