BS6 Yamaha MT-15 Power Figure Revealed
Upcoming emission norms have robbed the little MT of some poke
Power has reduced by 0.8Nm, torque unknown. A new colour scheme will be introduced with the BS6 version. Expect a price hike of around Rs 4,000 - 5,000The big news from Yamaha last month was its debut in the 125cc scooter segment with the newly launched Fascino 125 Fi and recently unveiled Ray ZR 125 Fi. However, something that slipped under the radar a little was the unveiling of the BS6 MT-15, which is due to launch in February.
The updated bike gets a side-stand engine cut-off, standard radial rear tyre and a new colour scheme, but Yamaha didn't reveal any engine specifications at the event. Now, however, certification documents have emerged which reveal the BS6 motor's power output. Unfortunately, just like all of Yamaha's other BS6 updates so far, power output has taken a hit - down to 18.5PS from the previous 19.3PS. This peak figure is produced at the same 10,000rpm as before.
In fact, this is marginally lower than even the BS6 R15 V3’s 18.6PS figure, indicating that perhaps Yamaha has focused more on mid-range torque than top-end power with the MT-15. The current bike produces 14.7Nm, so we can expect the updated model to kick out around 14.3Nm compared to the BS6 R15’s 14.1Nm. No official torque figure is displayed on the certifying documents.
What the documents do contain is the BS6 version’s dimensions, which are identical to those of the outgoing bike, indicating that no other changes have been made. Going by what we saw with the updated R15, we can expect a price hike of around Rs 4,000 - 5,000 for the baby MT when it is launched next month.
