Contrary to earlier reports, Yamaha isn’t launching the new R3 but a scooter and entry-level sports bike

[UpdateBS6 Yamaha R15 V3.0 Launched In India]

Yamaha has already launched its first BS6 two-wheeler in the form of the FZ-FI and FZS-FI.  BS6 specs of both two-wheelers were leaked pointing to its arrival. The BS6 Fascino is expected to get new bodywork and updated features.

Yamaha has invited us for the launch of a new product on December 19. According to dealer sources, the event will see not one but two launches in the form of the BS6-compliant Fascino and R15 V3.0. This comes close on the heels of the BS6 FZ-FI launch and is contrary to reports of the new R3 being launched. We were assured that wasn’t the case.

The BS6 Fascino test mule was spotted testing and the camouflaged bodywork indicates that the updates to the scooter will be more than mechanical. For starters, the side panels appear to have clean lines and the seat appears to be longer and flatter. It also gets a new grab rail. We expect the new scooter to get an LED headlamp and a digital instrument console.

Its 113cc motor is expected to be fuel-injected to comply with BS6 emission norms. While there is no update on the new power outputs, we expect the motor to make slightly lower power than the current 7.2PS and 8.1Nm. Updates to the underpinning include new alloy wheels and a front disc brake. We expect the new Fascino to be priced at a premium of Rs 6,000 - Rs 7,000 over the current model’s Rs 56,023 (ex-showroom Delhi) price.

Leaked documents suggest that the new R15 V3.0 will make less power than before. The BS6 compliant 155cc liquid-cooled motor makes 18.63PS, which is 0.67PS less than the current motor’s 19.3PS power output. Yamaha is expected to update the upcoming BS6 MT-15 with the same motor. Apart from the engine update, the BS6 R15 V3.0 might get updated colours and graphics and maybe even the inverted LCD instrument console from the MT15 but nothing major beyond that.

When launched, the BS6 Fascino will be the first 110cc scooter to be launched in India. Honda has already launched a 125cc BS6 scooter in the form of the Activa 125.
