In a bid to overcome the pollution problem in Delhi, the state government had earlier decided to ban Bharat Stage III compliant vehicles. With the new rule coming into effect from April 1, 2016, for all the new two-wheelers that need to be BS-IV compliant. As a result, Delhi government has put a ban on the sale of the Bajaj V 15 and the Suzuki Access 125, which were launched recently. Earlier, the sale of the Royal Enfield Himalayan was also stopped in the national capital due to the same reason. As per reports, the existing two-wheelers need to be upgraded by March 2017.

The government made the announcement only two months prior to the implementation of the rule, providing very less time for the manufacturers to make their offerings BS-IV compliant. The upgrade requires time, resources and major mechanical changes in the engine. As a result of the conflict between Delhi government and the manufacturers, it is the average buyer who is getting suffered.

The decision of implementing BS-IV norms looks the right choice considering the alarming percentage of polluted air that is reaching an all-time high. We also need to understand that as compared to four-wheelers, two-wheelers contribute more towards carbon footprint. Presently, customers having properties in areas near Haryana and UP can get their vehicles registered there. As of now, there is no law stating that vehicles registered from other states are not allowed in Delhi.
