Differences Explained In 10 Pics: KTM 390 Adventure vs KTM 390 Adventure X

Here’s how KTM’s flagship adventure bike compares with its pared-down sibling

KTM has launched an entry-level variant of the 390 Adventure. Christened the 390 Adventure X, it is priced at Rs 2,80,652 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is almost Rs 60,000 cheaper than standard KTM 390 Adventure. So how does the entry-level 390 Adventure compare with the standard model? Let’s find out:

Console and features

The biggest noticeable change is the instrument console: while the standard 390 adventure gets a TFT console, the 390 Adventure X gets an LCD console. But that isn’t all: though the 390 Adventure X gets switchable ABS (with offroad mode), it misses out on bluetooth connectivity. That said, both variants do not get turn-by-turn navigation.

Engine

The 373.2cc engine on the 390 Adventure X is the exact same as the standard model, making an identical 43.5PS and 37Nm, with a six-speed gearbox equipped with a slipper clutch. While KTM doesn't mention the X variant gets ride-by-wire, we still think it will. Apart from this, the engine in the standard variant is reined in by a two-level riding mode, cornering ABS, traction control and a bi-directional quickshifter, all of which the X variant skips out on.

Revised fork

The fork on the 390 Adventure X looks identical to the one on the standard bike, and bears the same WP Apex decal. However, it is a big piston unit, instead of the open cartridge system on the standard model. Both are non-adjustable, and offer 170mm wheel travel.

Tyres

Instead of the Metzeler Tourance tyres on the standard model, the 390 Adventure X’ wheels are shod with MRF MoGrip Meteor units, which are no doubt the more affordable alternative.

Colours

Both the 390 Adventure X as well as the standard 390 Adventure get two colour options. In fact, they even share one colour: Dark Galvano Black. However, while the 390 Adventure gets an Atlantic Blue colour, the Adventure X gets a Galactic Blue colour, though the differences between the two are quite subtle.

While KTM has managed to slash the price by a massive margin, the Austrian brand has managed to do so without diluting the core component of the 390 ADV, which is performance. So if you can live without the fancy features, you should save money and go for the X variant. That said, we wish it also came with a more accessible seat, as the stock 855mm saddle height may be a little too tall for some.
