The 2021 Honda Gyro e has been launched in Japan
The 2021 Honda Gyro e has two swappable battery packs. Offers a range of 72km. Is priced at an equivalent of Rs 3.66 lakh.Honda Japan has launched the 2021 Honda Gyro e at JPY 550,000 (that’s around Rs 3.66 lakh). This three-wheeled electric scooter is designed to carry cargo and is ideal for businesses. It has a loading capacity of 30kg in addition to the rider’s weight. The electric trike will be available in Japan from March 25, 2021.
The 2021 Honda Gyro e is powered by two 20.8Ah swappable lithium-ion battery packs, called Honda Mobile Power Pack. To jog your memory, this universal battery module also powers other Honda electric two-wheelers, including the Honda PCX Electric. In the Gyro e, the battery packs are connected in series to extract a maximum of 96V. The battery packs are placed under the seat and can be juiced up fully in four hours using a dedicated charger. Honda claims that at 30kmph (and with the rider), the electric trike can go up to 72km.
The battery packs are linked to a 3.2kW electric motor, producing a peak torque of 13Nm. These aren’t really eye-popping figures but should be sufficient for the purpose. Up front, the e-trike uses a larger 12-inch alloy wheel linked to a telescopic fork, whereas the rear gets a pair of smaller 8-inch steel wheels with twin shocks. The braking is via drum at both ends.
The rear cargo tray also comes with hooks for securing luggage ropes. You can carry extra load, thanks to the apron-mounted hook, optional apron-mounted front-facing basket, and a small inner apron-mounted pocket. There’s an optional 12V, 2A accessory socket to keep your electronics charged. Other features include a full digital display (that shows the remaining range and other usual information), LED headlight, reverse assist, and a parking lock lever.
Honda intends to sell 1,500 units of these in Japan annually. All in all, the 2021 Honda Gyro e seems to be a good proposition for Japanese businesses that want a Honda’s assurance while significantly reducing running costs, thanks to the electric powertrain. Moreover, the Mobile Power Pack is versatile and can help users power various home appliances like laptops, phones, and the likes.
