EXCLUSIVE: Upcoming 2022 Kawasaki Versys 650 Spied On Test

Spotted in production form, the 650cc ADV is likely to be launched this month

We recently spotted the 2022 Kawasaki Versys 650 on test in production form, thereby indicating that the Japanese marque is gearing up to officially launch the bike in India by the end of June. Also, according to our dealer sources, the new model will reach dealerships in July.

The test mule was camouflaged, and it’s likely that Kawasaki might be testing some localised parts on the bike. It sported a large, unsightly saree guard that seems to be the norm on all Indian Kawasaki models, *cough* Ninja 300 *cough*.

The updated Kawasaki 650cc cruiser sports a new fairing which looks similar to the bigger Kawasaki Versys 1000. While the rest of the bodywork remains the same, it also gets a revised headlight, four-step adjustable flyscreen, and a sharp-looking engine cowl. We expect it to get new liveries, which would be visually refreshing from the current Candy Lime Green.

Mechanically, the updated Versys remains the same as the outgoing model, with its 649cc, liquid-cooled, twin cylinder engine dishing out 66PS and 61Nm. However, it will now feature ‘Kawasaki Traction Control’ (KTRC), a two-level traction control system. Having two levels of TC modulation and also the option to switch it off completely should help riders experiment with multi-surface riding a lot more.

A new TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity rounds off the new Versys 650’s list of updates. This bike will be sold as a CKD unit (completely knocked down) and our sources reveal that the updated Versys 650 could see a price hike of almost Rs 50,000 - Rs 70,000. The current iteration is priced at Rs 7,15,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Once launched, the Versys 650 will rival the Triumph Tiger Sport 660, Suzuki V-Strom 650XT and Honda CB500X.
