Built under a scalable architecture that will spawn more electric bikes with different range, power figures and features.Harley-Davidson’s electric sub brand LiveWire has introduced its second electric motorcycle, the S2 Del Mar, globally. The flat tracker-inspired electric bike comes in a special Launch Edition, priced at USD 17,699 (around Rs 13.67 lakh). It will immediately be followed by the standard model, which Harley intends to price it at USD 15,000 (around Rs 11.58 lakh). Deliveries of both variants will likely commence from March 2023. Yes, that’s a long time away, which is why Harley mentions ‘targeted’ for details including pricing and specifications.
The S2 Del Mar’s design is a throwback to the iconic Harley flat tracker, the XR750. The electric motorcycle is built on a scalable ‘Arrow’ platform that uses the battery pack as the stressed member in the monocoque chassis. Harley has designed the chassis to be versatile enough to spawn multiple electric bikes at different price points catering to different audiences.
The electric motor will have a targeted output figure of 81PS, putting it right into the middleweight territory of ICE bikes. 0-96kmph acceleration time is projected to be 3.5 seconds or less, and the bike will have a target kerb weight of less than 200kg. The targeted city range is 160km, so expect the claimed highway figures to be considerably lower.

Expect the e-bike to have smartphone connectivity with navigation as well.
The LiveWire S2 Del Mar Launch Edition comes with a special hand-painted colour scheme ‘Jasper Gray’ or ‘Comet Indigo’, and rolls on specially designed cast aluminium wheels. Interestingly, this 100-unit limited edition e-bike was sold out in just 18 minutes. Those keen on the standard model will have to register their details and wait in the pre-ordering queue.
Expect Harley to launch the S2 Del Mar in India in mid-2023, priced at around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be the only high-end electric motorcycle by a premium manufacturer in India.
