In the US, it is priced at $29,799 (around Rs 21.4 lakh). In celebration of Harley’s 10th anniversary in India, the brand has taken the wraps off its first electric bike, the LiveWire here. The American bike maker had unveiled the concept in 2014 and recently, the brand revealed all the specifications and other details of the production model. The bike is set to be first launched in the US, Canada and Western Europe in September this year.
Expect Harley to launch the bike in India pretty soon. As far as prices are concerned, the bike costs $29,799 (approximately Rs 21.4 lakh) in the US. It is likely to cost over Rs 30 lakh in India. However, with revised GST rates and the introduction of FAME II benefits, expect the final price to go down slightly. Harley also launched the BS6-certified Street 750 10th Anniversary edition at the event.

The LiveWire is a complete departure from run-of-the-mill Harley cruisers both in terms od design and mechanicals. At its heart is a H-D Revelation permanent magnet water-cooled motor which churns out 106PS and 116Nm. All that torque is available right from the start, so 0-96kmph comes in just 3 seconds! A 15.5kWh lithium-ion battery powers the motor and it is sent to the rear wheel via a belt drive. It comes with a five-year unlimited km warranty too. According to Harley, the motorcycle can cover up to 235km in the city. The range drops to 152km if ridden in a mixture of stop-and-go traffic and highway riding conditions. As per WMTC test cycle, the LiveWire is capable of covering 158km on a full charge.
The more interesting part is that by using a Level 3 DC fast charger, the battery can be charged completely in just an hour, and up to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes. There’s a more basic Level 1 charger on offer too, which is compatible with a household 120V or 240V socket. However, using this to charge the charge the bike takes an entire night. Charging for an hour using Level 1 charger will offer range of around 20km.
Harley has equipped the bike with a whole load of electronics like cornering ABS, cornering-enhanced traction control system, wheelie control, and multiple rider modes. In the Indian market, the LiveWire is one of a kind in its segment. The only other electric motorcycle in the market right now is the Revolt RV 400 which is set to be launched tomorrow.
