Harley-Davidson Mid Capacity Electric Motorcycle In The Works

Modified On Jan 17, 2020 02:30 PM By Benjamin Noel Gracias

The upcoming electric motorcycle could be a sporty flat tracker

Harley Davidson plans to make electric scooters and mid-capacity motorcycles. Design renderings show an electric flat tracker concept motorcycle. The motorcycle could debut in concept form at EICMA later this year.

With the LiveWire now on sale in the US, Harley Davidson will now be shifting its focus towards small- to mid-capacity electric two-wheelers and bicycles. The company has now revealed that it is working on a mid-capacity electric motorcycle that would sit below Harley’s flagship electric motorcycle.

The new motorcycle has a flat tracker design, making it quite different from the flagship electric roadster LiveWire. It gets very little bodywork, a narrow seat, wide handlebars, and large wheels. Another interesting design element is the squarish headlamps, which is likely to feature LED units, inspired by the Fat Bob. It could get flat track-spec Dunlop DT3 tyres that come standard on the Indian FTR 1200. You can check out all electric scooters and motorcycles available in India here

The dummy fuel tank contains Harley-Davidson’s logo and below that is a ‘EDT600R’ badge. While EDT could mean Electric Drive Train, the 600R could be an indicator of the motor’s performance. For better cooling, the exposed battery pack gets large fins across its surface. While the LiveWire’s motor is liquid-cooled, the electric motor seems to get an oil cooler. It is chain driven and for better bottom end performance, has a large rear sprocket.

Along with a powerful motor, the new motorcycle could feature top-spec adjustable suspension. The rendering shows an upside down fork and a side-mounted monoshock connected to a cast aluminium swingarm. Interestingly, the electric motor and battery powertrain seem to act like the frame for the motorcycle.

The mid-capacity motorcycle is expected to debut in concept form at EICMA later this year. We could see a production model by late 2021 or early 2022.
