Hero Debuts More Powerful Xtreme 200S 4V

Gets a bunch of upgrades at a slight premium including a new motor

Hero has been on a spree of launching new and updated models of its bike portfolio, and for this week, Hero has launched the updated Xtreme 200S 4V at Rs 1,41,250, ex-showroom Delhi. It commands a premium of Rs 5,890 more than the 2V model.

Design

With new snazzier graphics and brighter colour schemes (Moon Yellow, Panther Black Metallic and Matt Axis Grey Metallic), the Hero Xtreme 200S 4V looks sportier than before. Interestingly, the Moon Yellow shade reminds us of the OG Karizma with its sporty yellow. However, in terms of design and styling it remains completely identical to the 2V model – same sharp fairing with a bulbous wide headlight design, complemented by a muscular fuel tank and a single-piece seat.

Engine

Here is where the Xtreme 200S 4V gets its biggest update. It now skips on the 2V air-cooled motor, and borrows the single-cylinder, 199.6cc, air/oil-cooled mill from the Hero XPulse twins. It makes the same  19.17PS and 17.35Nm as the XPulse, however, it is 1PS and 0.9Nm more than the Xtreme 200S 2V model. The new oil cooler could aid the engine in offering optimum performance.

Underpinnings

The hardware on the Xtreme 200S 4V remains mostly the same as the 2V model – telescopic fork and monoshock, along with the same alloy wheels. But the braking hardware is new – petal discs with single-channel ABS, borrowed from the XPulse 200T.

Ergonomics

With new raised clip-on handlebars, the Xtreme 200S 4V gets revised ergonomics, likely making it sportier than the 2V model.

Rivals

In its 2V state, the Xtreme 200S already competed with the Suzuki Gixxer SF and the Bajaj Pulsar 220F, but with the updated 4-valve air-/oil-cooled engine, it will also rival the Bajaj Pulsar RS200.

Sure, all these upgrades for a premium of Rs 5,890 make the bike more modern and sporty, however, we would have appreciated a bit more alteration to the bike – especially to the design. That said, it will bridge the gap between Hero’s more affordable bikes, and the upcoming Karizma XMR 210 which will come with a pretty premium sticker price, around Rs 1.75 lakh, ex-showroom.
