Hero MotoCorp Partners With Zero Motorcycles For Premium Electric Bikes

The process of this alliance is in the final stages

India’s top-selling two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, has announced the finalisation of its partnership with Zero Motorcycles. The California-based premium e-bike maker will help Hero with its Indian electrification journey.

Hero is likely to make use of Zero’s R&D and launch premium electric two-wheelers in India at cost-effective prices that could go up against not only Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, and Tork Kratos, but also the Ultraviolette F77. So could we look forward to an electric Karizma? We’ll find out soon enough.

This partnership could potentially also benefit Zero with its entry into the Indian EV segment. However, considering the premium products that Zero has on sale in the UK, these electric two-wheelers won’t come cheap. For reference, the Zero SR/F e-bike is priced at an equivalent of Rs 21 lakh in the UK.

Taking the partnership forward, Hero Board has approved an equity investment of up to USD 60 million in Zero Motorcycles. So an equivalent of Rs 490 crores will be invested by Hero with the purchase of Zero’s company shares.

Apart from this, Hero is all set to launch its first electric scooter under the Vida sub brand on October 7, and we also expect Hero to make an announcement about the alliance on the same day.
