Hero MotoCorp To Commence Production As Lockdown Is Eased Off
Operations will begin in three facilities from Wednesday; more to follow soon
April was a tough month for auto manufacturers as they were forced to neither produce nor sell vehicles during the lockdown imposed to contain coronavirus. With lockdown restrictions getting a bit more lenient, manufacturers are gearing up to resume operations shortly. Hero MotoCorp is one of the few manufacturers that aims to do just that. It has announced that three of its plants will become operational soon.
Hero’s manufacturing facilities in Gurugram, Dharuhera and Haridwar have received permission to resume operations. These plants will be opened today and production will begin in a couple of days. Its other plants have also got the necessary permissions to start functioning but Hero will only open them once its supply chain partners are up and running.
While this certainly is a good bit of news for the manufacturer, there are still obstacles that Hero cannot overcome due to the restrictions in place. Although the brand has been allowed to resume production of two-wheelers, they cannot be dispatched from the plants to states outside Haryana and Uttarakhand (which is where the facilities are). Hero dealerships in relaxed zones are set to open their doors and resume sales shortly. However, there could be some delay in deliveries, and we expect to get a clearer picture in the days to come.
