Hero MotorCorp Trademarks Hurikan and Hurikan 440
This will likely be a new model developed on the X440 platform, in cooperation with Harley-Davidson
Hero MotorCorp trademarked the Hurikan and Hurikan 440 names in India, the second filing that includes 440, after Nightster 440, signalling that the company is developing more models based on the Harley-Davidson X440 platform.
The Hurrikan 440 could potentially be Hero’s attempt at creating a sportier motorcycle using the same Harley-Davidson 440cc air/oil-cooled 2-valve SOHC single cylinder engine. This motor makes 27.4PS of power and 38 Nm of torque in the Harley-Davidson X440. But there’s a possibility that this engine could be re-tuned to meet the requirements of a sportier design as the name Hurikan (or cyclone) suggests.
The new model is expected to share some parts with the Harley Davidson X440 in order to keep prices attractive for potential buyers. As for the design, we expect the Hurikan 440 to be a sporty naked that takes design inspiration from Hero’s Xtreme series, and could feature a similar LED headlight design as well as the new Xtreme 160R 4V’s golden USD fork.
With this new model, Hero MotorCorp, which is the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, would likely be eyeing an entry into the more premium 300-400cc market, which has taken off in recent years in India. The Hurikan 440 would also give Hero MotoCorp a bike in this segment sooner than the currently delayed Xpulse 400. We expect the Xpulse 400 to be launched in early 2025, the Hurikan 440 will serve as the company’ flagship motorcycle, and going forward, might just serve as a budget option to the more advanced and expensive motorcycles built on the Xpulse 400 platform.
Deliveries of the X440 are set to begin from the 15th of October with bookings reopening on the 16th. The model has received over 25,000 bookings as of early August giving the Hero-Harley-Davidson partnership a very good start so far.
