Hero Working On Yamaha Aerox Rivaling Maxi-scooter

Submitted patent reveals details on what this sporty scooter can look like

Over the last few years, there’s been a surge of maxi-style scooters in India. We’ve had the Aprilia SXR 160 for a while now, but it wasn’t until the Yamaha Aerox that the segment piqued our interest. Hence, this recent patent filed by Hero for a maxi-scooter brings renewed excitement to the mix.

The design of the patented scooter looks very different to what you’d come to expect from a Hero scooter. In that sense, it looks more South East Asian with a sharp beak, underbone chassis, and upswept body panels.

Looking at the overall stance and profile of the scooter, it’s likely that it will pack enough power to rival the Yamaha Aerox. Maybe a 150cc unit (from the recently launched Xtreme 160R) making around 14PS and 12Nm. In terms of hardware, too, it looks like it’s designed with performance in mind. The patent design shows large wheels (possibly 14-inchers), a front disc brake (rear could get one too), a telescopic fork, and likely twin shock absorbers at the back.

Given that this is a Hero product, this maxi-scooter should be priced sensibly. However, for the same reason we do not see this maxi-scooter featuring a liquid-cooled motor or even debut any time soon. But the idea of a homegrown maxi-style scooter is exciting for sure!
