The prices for Apache RTR 160 start at Rs 1,20,420 and go up to Rs 1,29,520 (ex-showroom). We compared both bikes to find out how they fare against each other.

Design

The Hero Xtreme 160R 2V comes with a stylish design with an aggressive headlamp design that makes it stand out from the crowd. On the other hand, the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V has a sporty design, which now looks a bit outdated.

The Xtreme 160R comes in a single variant and is available in only the Stealth Black colour. The Apache RTR 160R 2V is available in T Grey, Matte Blue, Racing Red, Gloss Black, Pearl White, Glossy Black, and Racing Edition paint schemes.

Engine

The Hero Xtreme 160R 2V is equipped with a 163cc, 2-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that delivers a maximum output of 15.2PS and 14Nm. It is paired with a 5-speed transmission. Whereas, the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V gets a 159.7cc, 2-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The Apache RTR 160 has 3 ride modes:  Sport, Urban, and Rain. The power output in the Sport mode is 16.04PS and 13.85Nm, while the engine makes 13.32PS and 12.7Nm in Urban and Rain modes. It too gets a 5-speed gearbox.

Features

The 2024 Hero Xtreme 160R comes with an all-LED lighting setup. It features a full-LCD instrument console, but lacks smartphone connectivity, even as an optional feature. It includes a speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, trip meter, gear position indicator, clock and tell-tale lights. It also has a USB charging port for added convenience.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 2V comes with a full-LED headlight and eyebrow-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), as well as an LED tail lamp. It has a full-LCD instrument cluster displaying the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip metres, clock, gear indicator, riding data, and basic tell-tale lights. The top variant, Apache RTR 160 2V Disc BT, also includes Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing, offering features like call and SMS alerts, along with turn-by-turn navigation.

Underpinnings

The Hero Xtreme 160R is equipped with a 37mm telescopic fork and a 7-step preload-adjustable monoshock. It has a 276mm petal disc brake at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear, with single-channel ABS as standard. It has 17-inch alloy wheels, fitted with 100-section and 130-section radial tubeless tyres. The bike has a 790mm seat height, 167mm ground clearance, and a 12-litre fuel tank capacity. It has a kerb weight of 139.5kg.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 is suspended on a telescopic fork and twin gas-charged shocks at the rear. Braking on this bike is managed by a 270mm front disc as standard with a 130mm drum/200mm disc at the rear. Depending on the variant, you can get either single-channel or dual-channel ABS. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, wrapped with 90-section front and 110-section rear tubeless tyres. The top-spec disc BT variant has a 120-section rear tyre.

The Apache RTR 160 2V comes with a 790mm seat height, 180mm ground clearance, and a 12-litre fuel tank capacity. The drum variant weighs 137kg (kerb) whereas the disc variant weighs 138kg.

Verdict

The 2024 Xtreme 160R 2V is Rs 9,309 cheaper than the Apache RTR 160 but misses out on some features. The Apache RTR 160 2V, on the other hand, comes with better features including smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and ride modes. It also offers more variants and colour options to choose from, unlike the Hero.

If you're after a sporty-looking bike with a fresh design or have a tight budget, and can do without smartphone connectivity, the Hero Xtreme 160R 2V is a solid choice. However, if you don't mind the Apache's old design and prefer more features and colour options, the RTR 160 is worth considering. For added safety, the dual-channel ABS variant would be the better option, for which you would have to pay Rs 4,300 over the single-channel ABS variant.
