We compare the two 160cc motorcycles through detailed images

Hero recently updated its Xtreme 160R with a 4-valve engine to put up a good fight in the competitive 160cc motorcycle segment. Now, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has been one of the most sought-after motorcycles in this class, so here’s a lowdown on how the new Hero bike fares against the Apache:

The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V as well as the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V both have a sporty design language. However, while the Apache flaunts sharp and bold lines, the Xtreme 160 4V features curvy, muscular lines.

The Hero Xtreme 160R features an aggressive LED headlight flanked by two LED DRLs. This is also the only motorcycle in this segment that gets all-LED illumination. TVS meanwhile too gets a sharp headlight with LED light as well as DRL, and even the tail light is an LED unit but the indicators are halogen ones.

Both the bikes feature LCD console, and get a bunch of features, but the way these have been used are completely different. The Xtreme 160R 4V comes with a few security, telemetric and even navigation-based features, but these are all app-dependent which makes them quite gimmicky. On the other hand, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V packs a turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts and even ride modes.

The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V comes with a 163.2cc air-/oil-cooled single-cylinder motor that puts out 16.9PS and 14.6Nm. Meanwhile, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V uses a 159.7cc single-cylinder engine that makes 17.55PS in Sport mode and 15.64PS in Urban/Rain mode. It makes 14.73Nm and 14.14Nm in Sport and Urban/Rain mode.

The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V comes with USD fork and monoshock to handle suspension duties and disc brakes at both ends. For the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, there’s a telescopic fork and monoshock with petal discs at both ends. However, the bike also gets a drum variant.
