Hero Xtreme 160R vs TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6: Image Comparison

Modified On Aug 4, 2020 04:15 PM By Gaurav Sadanand for Hero Xtreme 160R

How does the Hero Xtreme 160R compare to the Apache RTR 160 4V in terms of performance, kit and features?

The Hero Xtreme 160R is a new kid on the block designed to take on the 150-160cc segment and hopefully snatch the crown from the current king, the Apache RTR 160 4V. Hero’s newest entrant not only looks sporty but also offers a couple of segment-first features along with a potent 160cc engine. But how does it compare against its most formidable rival, the RTR 160 4V? Check out these detailed images to find out.

The Xtreme 160R draws inspiration from the Xtreme 1.R Concept which was first showcased at EICMA 2019. It is compact with tightly packed body panels that look identical to the concept. The tail section is unlike anything we've seen in the 160cc segment with a smoked LED tail lamp and cleanly integrated pillion grab rails. As for the RTR 160, well it looks pretty much the same as before but it now features a new full-LED headlight.

The Xtreme 160R is the only bike in the segment to feature LED lights all around. In comparison, the RTR 160 4V gets an LED headlight and tail light paired with conventional bulb indicators.

Hero has also equipped the Xtreme 160R with a hazard switch -- a feature that isn’t available on the RTR 160.

It also takes a leaf out of TVS’ book with a full-digital instrument console, however, it isn’t nearly as feature-packed as the RTR 160 4V. Readouts include a tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, and trip meter but it misses out on a gear position and range indicators. The RTR, on the other hand, steps it up with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, lean angle, tour mode, race telemetry and crash alert. All of this info can be monitored on TVS’ mobile app.

The seat on the Xtreme is rather spacious with softer cushioning. Although, the pillion seat is a tad small due to the bike’s compact dimensions. As for the RTR, it’s seat is slightly narrower with a harder density foam.

Unfortunately, the RTR 160 4V still stands as the most powerful bike in its segment. Its 159.7cc engine puts out 16.02PS and 14.12Nm as opposed to the Xtreme’s 15.22PS and 14Nm via its 163cc engine. Both bikes feature a 5-speed transmission.

The duo is pretty evenly matched in terms of underpinnings with a telescopic fork and a monoshock tuned by none other than Showa!

Same goes for the braking department where both bikes use petal disc brakes at either end. Having said that, the Xtreme 160R has slightly larger rotors -- 276mm front and 220mm at the rear compared to 270mm and 200mm respectively on the RTR 160 4V. Single-channel ABS comes as standard on both bikes.

The Hero Xtreme 160R is available in two variants: single disc priced at Rs 99,950 and rear disc at Rs 1,03,500 (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). At this price point, it manages to undercut the Apache RTR 160R, which costs Rs 1,04,000 for the rear drum variant and Rs 1,07,050 for the rear variant.

Both bikes come with three colour options: white, black and red for the Xtreme 160R and red, blue and black for the RTR 160 4V.
