Honda Launches Final Editions Of Its Inline-Four 400cc Retro Bikes In Japan
New emissions norms implemented in the country mark the end of the iconic inline-four CB400 Super Four and the CB400 Bol d’Or
Honda has launched the CB400 Super Four and the CB400 Bol d’Or Final Edition in Japan. As the name suggests, the Final Edition marks the end of the iconic inline-four motorcycle duo.
Thanks to Japan’s new Reiwa 2 (similar to BS6) emission norms, all vehicles must either comply with the new standards or be discontinued; and surprisingly, Honda chose to do the latter. This is disheartening as the CB400 duo has been in production since 1992, and even though it was primarily restricted to the Japanese market, gained popularity and respect across the globe.

There’s also a limited edition Matte Beta Silver Metallic colourway, but that’s reportedly sold out.
Apart from the new colours, there are no changes to the bikes. These motorcycles use the same 399cc liquid-cooled inline-four motor producing 56PS and 39Nm with the 6-speed gearbox from the standard models. The duo gets a telescopic fork and dual rear shocks, both of which are adjustable for preload. Braking duties have been entrusted to twin discs up front and a single disc at the rear.
Even the semi-digital instrument console remains unchanged. So, you get the same dual-pod analog cluster with a small yet informative digital inlay in the middle. Apart from the basic information, the LCD display also shows the ambient temperature and fuel consumption.
The Honda CB400 Bol d’Or Final Edition gets cubby-holes on either side of the quarter fairing. Though these aren’t meant to store objects sensitive to heat, they will definitely come in handy to keep documents, keys or other essentials.
The Honda CB400 Super Four Final Edition is priced at JPY 8,84,400 (Rs 5.41 lakh) to JPY 9,28,400 (Rs 5.68 lakh) while the Bol d’Or will set you back by JPY 10,64,800 or Rs 6.37 lakh to JPY 10,40,600 which translates to JPY 10,84,600 (Rs 6.64 lakh). These bikes certainly aren’t headed to India for sure, but if you are into retro motorcycles, the Kawasaki Z650RS or the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 remain your only options in our market.
