Honda Rebel Based Sub-500cc Scrambler Patent Leaked

Published On Nov 15, 2019 12:04 PM By Gaurav Sadanand

It’s likely to be powered by the same 471cc parallel-twin engine seen on the Rebel 500

The patent images of the sub-500cc scrambler have been leaked online. There’s also a smaller, more affordable 300cc neo-retro bike in the works. Expect both bikes to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor show or EICMA 2020

We had earlier reported Honda’s intentions of taking on Royal Enfield in a battle of twins. Recent revelations suggest that the adversary has almost reached its testing phase with a few formalities, of course. To cut to the chase, patent images of the scrambler using the same engine as the Rebel 500 were leaked online recently.

It’s pretty evident from the images where Honda’s focus lies. Just like some of its latest models, the new bike gets various neo-retro details too and draws certain design cues from its very own scrambler concept, the Bulldog. It features a dome-shaped headlamp, a short front fender, raised handlebars looking over what seems to be a digital instrument console and a slim fuel tank. The rear comprises of a long seat flowing into an elongated rear fender and a scrambler-type exhaust.

The Revel 500’s engine finds its way to the upcoming Honda scrambler and so does its chassis, albeit with a few tweaks to accommodate its subframe. Interestingly, the chassis appears to use the engine as a stressed member. While there’s no official word from Honda itself, we do know that the Rebel packs a Euro 5-compliant 471cc, liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin motor.

Reportedly, the exact same treatment will be carried over to the Rebel 300 in a bid to develop a new neo-retro motorcycle. Expect both bikes to be unveiled at the next Tokyo Motor Show or EICMA 2020. It’s quite possible that Honda may even assemble these bikes locally to export them to different markets.
