Honda Shine BS6: All You Need To Know
The new Shine drops the CB moniker but picks up a lot more
After the SP 125, Honda has launched the Shine BS6. The motorcycle gets a cleaner, more tech-laden motor as well as cosmetic and mechanical updates. Here’s what you need to know about this 125cc motorcycle.
All new motor:
The Shine BS6 gets a new motor. This 124cc motor features a different bore and a longer stroke than the BS4 CB Shine. It now gets fuel-injection, which Honda claims helps improve mileage by 14 per cent. The power outputs stand at 10.7PS at 7500rpm and 11Nm at 6000rpm. Both power and torque are up by 0.4PS and 0.5Nm. However, peak torque is made 500rpm higher in the rev range. Like the SP 125 and the Activa 125, the motor gets an ACG starter for silent start operations. It comes with a 5-speed gearbox for better highway cruiseability.
Minor cosmetic updates:
While the bodywork remains mostly unchanged, Honda has made minor cosmetic and feature revisions across the board. The Shine BS6 gets new graphics and differently styled chrome trim on the headlamp visor and side panels. It also gets a flush fitting aircraft-type fuel filler cap and revised instrument console graphics. While the BS4 CB Shine was offered in six colours, the Shine BS6 comes in four. The Sunset Brown Metallic and Imperial Red Metallic paint shades have been dropped. The available colour options are Black, Geny Grey Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic, and Rebel Red Metallic. New features include an engine kill switch, pass light switch, and a DC headlamp.
Revised underpinnings:
The Shine BS6 gets a 27mm longer seat and it now sits more flush with the fuel tank. Dimension-wise the Shine BS6 has grown in length, width and height. Even the wheelbase has increased by 19mm while ground clearance is up by 5mm. The biggest update has been the kerb weight that has dropped by 8kg! The Shine BS6 now weighs 115kg (disc variant). It gets 5-step adjustable shock absorbers. The wheels and brake setup remain identical to the outgoing BS4 model.
Pricing and competition:
The Shine BS6 is available in two variants: drum and disc. While the drum variant costs Rs 67,857, the disc variant retails for Rs 72,557. Competition comes in the form of the Hero Super Splendor and Bajaj Discover 125.
