Honda U-Go Electric Scooter Launched In China, Gets Up To 130km Range

Light weight, practical, and a sleek looker -- the U-Go is everything the upcoming India-bound Honda electric scooter needs to be!

The Honda U-Go is priced at an equivalent of Rs 91,860. Weighs just 83kg kerb. Also gets a removable lithium-ion battery pack.

Wuyang Honda, the Japanese manufacturer’s Chinese arm, recently launched the Honda U-Go electric scooter in the country. It is priced at CNY 7,999, which is around Rs 91,860. There’s also a low-speed variant (with its top speed restricted to 43kmph) available at CNY 7,499 (about Rs 86,118).

The regular variant comes with a claimed top speed of 53kmph, and offers a claimed range of around 65km (with a 75kg rider, at a constant speed of 35kmph). The range can be extended to 130km with twin battery packs. The 48V 30Ah lithium-ion battery pack is removable, and it is linked to a 1200W hub motor. The low-speed variant gets a less-powerful 800W hub motor.

The electric scooter features a proper 12-inch front alloy wheel with disc brake (held by a telescopic fork) and a 10-inch rear wheel with drum brake. The rear end uses twin preload-adjustable shock absorbers.

Design-wise, it looks like a mellower version of the Ather 450X. It’s sleek, sporty, and will appeal to younger buyers. The lighting system is all-LED, and Honda has made sure the e-scooter is as practical as possible. It comes with an apron-mounted hook and a utility box, an apron-mounted USB charging port, a large 26-litre underseat storage, and a spacious 350mm long floorboard. The e-scooter gets a negative LCD instrument cluster that shows the speed, battery percentage, and odometer reading. It is also quite light at 83kg (kerb). This, coupled with the low 740mm seat, should make it a breeze to maneuver in tight spaces. 

All in all, the Honda U-Go seems to be just the kind of electric scooter the Japanese company needs to take inspiration from for its upcoming EV for India. We just hope the India-bound one gets a higher top speed and better range. Let us know what you guys think in the comments below.
