How Different Is The New Yamaha R15M After Its Latest Update?
Different on the outside, but same on the inside
Yamaha finally launched four updated bikes in India. Along with its FZ series, the Japanese marque also gave its sporty bikes, the MT-15 V2.0 and the R15 V4, updates. Let’s see what the sportiest of the lot, the R15M now gets, when compared with its pre-update version:
The updated Yamaha R15M’s swanky new R1-inspired TFT console is in line with sporty, modern-day bikes. It looks crisp and packs bits like day and night modes, Bluetooth connectivity, SMS and call alerts and a lot more. That said, it still misses out turn-by-turn navigation. While the older R15M did pack Bluetooth connectivity in its feature-packed console, the LCD did feel a tad bit dated on such an aggressive and modern-looking bike.
The biggest visual difference when it comes to the new R15M are the new LED indicators. They look sleek and accentuate the R15M’s sporty appeal. The older halogen indicators were definitely a bit of an eyesore. While they weren’t too bad on their own, they looked out of place on an otherwise extremely sporty bike.
The third difference between the bikes comes in their prices. An updated price of Rs 1,93,900 (ex-showroom Delhi) means that the new bike retails for Rs 2,500 more than before. So are the updates worth that?
The answer to that, in our opinion, is yes. For the money, you get a bike that’s more modern, both in terms of looks and technology. So if you’re looking for a sub-Rs 2 lakh supersport, the R15M still presents itself as a thoroughly modern, feature-loaded and capable machine.
Other bits, meanwhile, have remained unchanged on the gorgeous bike. The engine continues to be the 155cc liquid-cooled one that makes 18.4PS and 14.2Nm. Underpinnings include an inverted fork and a monoshock.
