India-Bound Kawasaki Versys 650 to come with ABS; Launch Expected Next Month
Earlier we had reported about the launch of Kawasaki’s middleweight adventure tourer - Versys 650 might happen in sometime by the end of this year. Now, we have received more good news that not only this bike is coming to India but has some interesting updates that will surely improve its value in the Indian market. The 650cc Kwacker will be equipped with an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and is expected to hit Indian shores next month.
Kawasaki had earlier launched its two mid-weight motorcycles - Ninja 650 and ER-6n, and both these machines come without an ABS in India. This disappointed the Kawasaki fans to a bit as even smaller capacity bikes like Honda CBR 250R and KTM RC 390 come equipped with the above-stated safety feature. This might be the reason why Kawasaki thought to put in ABS in its next machine that it has planned to launch in the country.
Kawasaki Versys 650 will be powered by the same 649cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that does duty on the Ninja 650. The six-speed motor churns out a maximum power of 71bhp at 8,500rpm along with a peak torque of 64Nm at 7,000rpm. However, some fine tunings can be done to the motor to alter the performance as per adventure touring purposes. Besides, the bike has also been equipped with adjustable suspension setup at the front as well as rear to take on any surface effortlessly. If the speculations are to be believed, the Versys 650 will be fitted with tyres different from those of Ninja 650 and ER-6n.
Talking of looks, the Versys 650 will share the design philosophy with its elder sibling - Versys 1000. The dual headlamp section, semi fairing and the aerodynamic windshield are the main aspects that enhance its visuals. The upcoming bike will come via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs. 5.15 lac. Once launched, the machine will lock its horns with Benelli TNT 600GT on the Indian roads.
