Jawa Mileage Revealed; Lower Than Royal Enfield Classic 350

Modified On Apr 5, 2019 01:47 PM By Benjamin Noel Gracias for Jawa 350

Jawa has revealed the ARAI-certified mileage for both the Jawa and Forty Two

Jawa Motorcycles has tweeted that its bikes return a fuel efficiency figure of 37.5kmpl. Both the Jawas get same powertrain and underpinnings. The fuel efficiency figure is 3.3kmpl lower than the Royal Enfield Classic 350’s.

In response to a tweet, Jawa Motorcycles has confirmed that its Jawa and Forty Two have an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 37.5kmpl. The mileage question has been a prominent one among potential Jawa customers along with delivery dates. To answer the latter, Jawa has already commenced deliveries for the Jawa and Forty Two.

Both the Jawa and Forty Two deliver similar fuel efficiency as they share the same powertrain and underpinnings with small changes to the bodywork.

ARAI has now adopted the WMTC (World Motorcycle Test Cycle) standard to test fuel efficiency for two-wheelers. These test figures are pretty close to the real world numbers. The Jawa’s closest competitor in the retro space, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 returns a WMTC fuel efficiency of 40.8kmpl.

Both the Jawa and the Jawa Forty Two are powered by the same 293cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that makes 27.37PS and 28Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The Jawa’s motor has been derived from the Mojo which has a WMTC mileage figure of 29.8kmpl. The Jawa might be more fuel efficient than the Mojo, given the former’s more relaxed state of tune and the fact that it’s lighter as well. We will be putting both the Jawas under our own real-world fuel efficiency test cycle soon so keep watching this space.

Jawa is enjoying a good demand for its bikes which currently command a long waiting period. Recently Jawa organised a fundraiser for children of martyrs where they auctioned off special edition Jawas. Of them, the Jawa with chassis no. 001 was sold for a whopping Rs 45 lakh.
