Jawa Perak: 5 Things To Know
Here’s everything you need to know about the new Jawa Perak
[UPDATE: The Jawa Perak BS6 specifications have been updated. It is slightly torquier than before and you can read all about it here.]
It’s finally here! Jawa has launched the Perak in India a year after it was first unveiled. Priced at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Perak is Rs 30,500 more expensive than the standard Jawa. And what do you get for that extra sum? Well, read on to find out.
The most powerful Jawa right now
Powering the motorcycle is a 334cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC motor, which churns out 30.4PS and 31Nm, paired to a 6-speed transmission. In comparison, the other Jawa motorcycles are powered by 293cc motor that belts out 27.3PS and 28Nm. However, the most important bit here is that the new Perak is BS6-compliant, making it one of the few motorcycles right now that adhere to the new emission norms.
Looks absolutely stunning
There are hardly any motorcycles, which look as beautiful as the Perak. While the front half of the motorcycle is similar to the Jawa, the rear end is where things start to get pretty. The single-seat, the matte paint job with blacked-out front forks, spoke wheels, frame, engine and exhaust make the Perak look even more gorgeous.
Slightly different underpinnings compared to the Jawa
While the front suspension might look the same on the outside, the company claims it has changed the internals in a bid to save weight. The monoshock, on the other hand, is similar to other motorcycles. The braking hardware is also the same as the Jawa and the Forty Two. However, Jawa has altered the chassis to some extent to house the new wide cage-type swingarm.
First bobber in its segment
The sub-400cc segment has a motorcycle from each segment. You have the Royal Enfield Classic 350 in the retro segment (even the Jawa), the KTM 390 Duke in the naked segment and the RC 390 in the faired sportbike category. And the Perak is the only bobber motorcycle in this class.
When can you buy it?
The bike maker will commence bookings from January 1 with deliveries scheduled to begin by April 2. Currently, Jawa is kind of struggling to meet the demand as the standard model and the Forty Two were well-received. However, the bike maker has now ramped up production and the waiting period has come down drastically. Moreover, the Perak has a separate assembly line, which should not affect the production of the motorcycles to that extent.
