Jawa Perak Launched In India

What a perfect way to celebrate the cult bikemaker’s first anniversary in the country!

The Jawa Perak is India’s most affordable bobber. Compared to the regular Jawa, the Perak packs a bigger, more powerful engine. It is also dearer than the standard Jawa by Rs 30,500.

Celebrating its first anniversary in India, Jawa launched the Perak bobber today. It is the third Jawa motorcycle in the country and the most affordable bobber. Priced at Rs 1,94,500 (ex-Delhi), the motorcycle is more expensive than the standard Jawa by Rs 30,500. While it doesn’t have any natural rivals, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X is the only other option if you’re looking at a factory custom. Jawa says the bookings will open from January 2020 and deliveries will commence from April 2, 2020 onwards. To ensure there's less stress on the production and logistics, the bikemaker says it will accept bookings every three months.

The cult bikemaker has equipped the motorcycle with a rebored 334cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC motor, which churns out 30.4PS and 31Nm, working alongside a 6-speed transmission. Jawa has arrived at this displacement figure by increasing the bore and retaining the stroke length. Comparatively, the standard Jawa makes 27.3PS and 28Nm from its smaller 293cc motor. More importantly, the Perak's engine is BS6-compliant and is the first Jawa to comply with the upcoming emission norms. That said, the deliveries might commence from March 2020 onwards, in cities where BS6 fuel is available.

To suit the bike’s demeanour, it also uses a unique swingarm structure, which is similar to the Triumph Bonneville Bobber’s ‘swing cage’ swingarm. Its construction allows the bike to have a neat slanted design line right from the steering head all the way to the centre of the rear wheel. This design feature is highlighted by the hidden preload-adjustable monoshock too, and it also offers a classic hard-tail look.  

This coupled with the minimalistic side panels gives the Perak a spartan look. Up front, the bike employs a telescopic fork and brakes include disc on both ends with dual-channel ABS from Continental as standard. The bobber rolls on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, similar to the standard Jawa. However, they are shod with fatter Ceat Zoom Cruz tyres measuring 100-section up front and 140-section at the rear.
