Kawasaki Ninja 400, Z400 BS6 Launched Abroad

For 2022, both the bikes are now Euro 5/BS6 compliant and get new paint schemes

Kawasaki has updated its 400cc range for 2022. Both the Ninja 400 and the Z400 are now Euro 5 compliant, meaning that they can continue to be sold in Europe. The Z400 now retails at 6,000 Pounds (approximately Rs 5,80,777) while the Ninja 4000 costs 6,250 Pounds (approximately Rs 6,04,976).

Mechanically, both the motorcycles are identical, carrying on with the 399cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with 45.3PS and 37Nm on tap. While the power figures are identical, the bikes produce 1Nm less than their predecessor in their Euro 5 avatar. Both the bikes also get an updated slip-and-assist clutch that Kawasaki claims has 20% lighter lever action than before. This should make it effortless to ride on roads with stop-go traffic.

Both bikes feature an unchanged 41mm telescopic fork along with a preload-adjustable monoshock. A 310mm front disc and a 220mm one at the rear handle braking duties. To back the bikes’ sporty credentials, they both come with 17-inchers at both ends with a 110/70 tyre at the front and 150/60 at the rear. The Ninja 400 tips the scale at 168kg while its naked sibling does so at 167kg, both of which are the same as their previous iterations.

For its 2022 avatar, the Ninja 400 gets a new paint scheme namely Metallic Carbon Grey, which ditches Kawasaki’s trademark Lime Green for a stealthier black and grey colour with slight green graphics on the tank. The 2022 Z400 too, can be purchased in a new colour: Pearl Robotic White, with white and red graphics on the front mudguard, tank extensions and at the rear. 

It’s unlikely that these bikes will come to India in the near future. That said, if you’re looking to get yourself a sub-400cc sportsbike, you can have a look at the 2022 KTM RC 390 and the TVS Apache RR 310. If committed faired bikes aren’t your thing, you could consider the BMW G 310 R.
