KTM 200 Duke BS6: 5 Things To Know
The 200 Duke has been heavily revised for 2020 with a new look, different dimensions, and upgraded underpinnings
The entire KTM BS6 range has been launched. Of all the bikes, the KTM 200 Duke BS6 gets the most revisions making it a more premium offering. Here are the 5 most important points you should know about the BS6 KTM 200 Duke:
New look:
For 2020, the KTM 200 Duke BS6 gets completely new bodywork. While at first glance, the 200 Duke looks similar to the 250 Duke, it gets a differently shaped engine cowl, different graphics and instead of a side slung exhaust, it continues to use an underbelly exhaust unit. It is now available in two new colours: Electronic Orange and Ceramic White. In terms of features, the 200 Duke gets a halogen headlamp with inbuilt LED DRLs and a new LED tail lamp similar to the 250 Duke. It also continues to use the same digital instrument console as before.
Different dimensions:
With new bodywork come new dimensions. The KTM 250 Duke BS6 is now larger than before. Its fuel-tank capacity has increased from 10.2 litres to 13.5 litres. KTM claims this helps improve the motorcycle’s range by 30 per cent. The new frame should result in an increase in seat height as well. KTM has not mentioned the new 200 Duke’s seat height, but we expect it to be similar to the 250 Duke’s 830mm since both share similar frames. That would mean a 12mm increase in seat height over the BS4 200 Duke. Also, the 250 Duke BS6 is 9kg heavier than before owing to the new bodywork, frame and BS6 updates.
Upgraded underpinnings:
The KTM 200 Duke BS6 gets a new split trellis frame shared with the 250 Duke and 390 Duke. It continues to use 43mm WP upside down forks and WP monoshock. Braking is via the same 300mm front and 230mm rear Bybre discs but the big upgrade is the move from a single-channel ABS setup to a dual-channel ABS unit.
Similar performance:
Despite the switch to BS6, the KTM 200 Duke BS6 sees only a small drop in power output. Its 199cc motor now makes 25PS at 10,000rpm and 19.3Nm at 8000rpm. However, torque has dropped by 0.2Nm. The motor continues to use a six-speed gearbox.
Hiked price:
The new updates come with a price hike. It now retails for Rs 1.72 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), a price hike of Rs 10,496 over the BS4 200 Duke. For that price, you get more premium bodywork, new frame, and dual-channel ABS aside from BS6 updates to the motor.
