KTM 200 Duke Modified Into Electric Bike, Offers 130km Range, 140kmph Top Speed
Uttar Pradesh man converts his ICE bike to electric all by himself
The KTM E-Duke may still be some time away, but the rising fuel prices seems to have forced this Indian to find his own jugaad. UP-based Asad Abdullah has converted his KTM 200 Duke to an electric motorcycle all by himself that has a claimed top speed of 140kmph and a range of 130km.
Asad learnt the basics of building electric vehicles online, and then started transforming his 200 duke to an electric bike. He swapped the 199cc liquid-cooled single cylinder producing 26PS and 19Nm with a 4kW hub motor that can put out a claimed 25kW for 30 seconds. Asad then used a motor controller from a Chinese manufacturer called QS Motors. Though it can go up to 140kmph, Asad has limited the top speed to 125kmph.

Presumably, he built the battery pack in a way that it utilised the mounting points of the engine.
Furthermore, he used the space that the petrol tank used earlier to fit the charger for the battery pack. With the charger onboard, juicing up the bike is a hassle-free process and takes a claimed four hours for a full charge. Asad claims that his battery delivers 130km on a single charge. For reference, the Tork Kratos has a claimed range of 120km in Eco mode. To top that off, Asad claims he’s been using solar charging, which he claims virtually makes the running cost free.
Though Asad’s innovation is praiseworthy, converting/modifying a motorcycle with equipment that isn’t RTO approved, attracts heavy penalisation and is illegal. There is a legal RTO-approved electrification kit available for the Hero Splendor on sale right now. Here’s the pros and cons of converting an ICE bike to an electric.
