Log9 Materials Unveils Its First Cell Manufacturing Facility In India

It has also introduced a new Battery Management System to improve charging times

Bengaluru-based Log9 Materials has unveiled its first cell manufacturing facility in India. This plant will develop indigenous Li-ion cells in India, mitigating the import of the said cells from China and other countries.

The primary benefit of manufacturing the cells in India is that the cost of manufacturing an EV will reduce by a significant margin, as import duties will be cut out of the mix. This will also promote smaller EV makers to manufacture their batteries here in a more affordable manner.

These indigenous battery cells aim to improve energy density and reduce efficiency loss along with shorter processing time, smaller size by 52 per cent and lower production cost. Log9 has also introduced a single-board battery management system (BMS), which should reduce charging times to as low as 5 to 45 minutes.

At present Log9 aims to produce 1000 EVs with indigenous battery cells by next year, and also plans to make cells to be used in static applications, not just EVs. Considering the lithium reserves found in Jammu and Kashmir, this shouldn’t be much of an issue.
