Meet The Endeavor, Kawasaki’s First Electric Bike

Published On Apr 28, 2020 10:15 AM By Arun Mohan Nadar

The prototype electric motorcycle is based on the Kawasaki Ninja 300

It’s no secret that Kawasaki is working hard on developing a proper fun to ride electric motorcycle. It had teased an electric bike based on the Kawasaki Ninja 300. The Japanese brand has announced the name for its electric motorcycle as ‘Endeavor’ -- not to be confused with the humongous SUV from Ford.

Apart from the name, Kawasaki also teased that the upcoming electric motorcycle will feature a 4-speed gearbox. Most electric vehicles have a single-speed gearbox with reverse assist for parking. The fact that the Kawasaki Endeavor features a manual gearbox hints that it wants its first electric motorcycle to be similar to a conventional internal combustion powered bike. Another advantage of the 4-speed transmission according to Kawasaki is that it offers a greater speed range. The Kawasaki Endeavor also runs on a chain drive setup instead of the belt drive system that’s popular on most performance electric motorcycles like the Harley-Davidson Livewire. Kawasaki has been very secretive about the specifications of the bike, but some reports suggest that it uses a brushless electric motor delivering around 19kW.

There isn’t a fixed timeline for the launch of the Kawasaki Endeavor electric bike as the current COVID-19 pandemic would have increased development time further by at least a couple of months if not more. A realistic target will be to see the bike being showcased as a concept by early or mid-2021 with a possible launch by late 2021. Given our small market for electric two-wheelers and especially for premium electric motorcycles, it’s unlikely that the Kawasaki Endeavor will be launched in India soon. If it does come, it will face competition from the upcoming Ultraviolette F71
