New Yamaha EMF Electric Scooter Launched Overseas
The scooter features swappable battery tech from popular EV company, Gogoro
While everyone was expecting Yamaha to launch the E01 electric scooter (our speculation stemmed from its recent sighting), the company has instead introduced a different e-scooter, the EMF, in Taiwan.
The Yamaha EMF is a product of its partnership with EV maker, Gogoro. Yes, this is the same company with an ongoing collaboration with our very own Hero MotoCorp.
Thanks to the partnership, the Yamaha EMF uses swappable batteries from Gogoro. And whenever its charge starts getting depleted, you can simply go to the nearest Gogoro swap station and pick up a fully charged battery. This is similar to what Bounce EV plans to do, the only difference being that Gogoro already has a widespread network of swap stations in Taiwan.
This tech is similar to the one on the Yamaha EC-05 e-scooter, which is already on sale in Taiwan.
The swappable batteries come with the 7.6 kW mid-mounted motor, capable of propelling the EMF from standstill to 50kmph in just 3.5-seconds.
There are plenty of features on offer too. The list includes a digital LED instrument cluster, power modes, LED projector lights, an NFC-enabled smart key, CBS, and even a cup holder compartment.
All these features are complemented by the Yamaha EMF’s striking design. The scooter is offered in three colours: light blue, dark green, and dark black. Not to forget, it’s pretty accessible too, with a seat height and ready-to-go weight of 785mm and 114kg.
The scooter is built around a steel tube chassis, suspended on telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers. Meanwhile, 200mm and 190mm disc brakes clamp on the 10-inch alloy wheels for braking.
Yamaha is offering the EMF e-scooter at an early-bird price of NT$ 99,800 (Rs 2.68 lakh). It does seem quite pricey by Indian standards, and it’s unlikely that Yamaha will launch it here. But the company is working on an EV specifically for our market, which is expected to come soon.
