From a mid-mounted motor to 14-inch rims, this e-scooter has everything to stir up the EV market

[Update: The Okinawa Okhi90 e-scooter has been launched. Find all the details in our launch report here.]

Okinawa has announced that it will be launching its e-scooter (codenamed 'Okhi90') on March 24. This will likely be the new flagship product from the Rajasthan-based company.

The Okinawa Okhi90 has been spotted testing already and going by the products available in our market, this seems like a unique offering. That's because, unlike most electric scooters, the Okhi90 doesn't look like a compact scooter and is handsomely proportioned.

Furthermore, the long seat, 14-inch wheels with disc brakes at both ends, and the motorcycle-like telescopic fork and dual shock setup lend it a dominating presence. Interestingly, despite the long seat, the central part of the floorboard is relatively narrow, suggesting that the battery pack will likely be stored underneath the rider seat.

Much like the Okinawa iPraise, the battery pack is likely to be a detachable unit. However, the company may even take a step further by introducing battery-swapping tech, something that the government too has been encouraging. The upcoming scooter also seems to be powered by a mid-mounted motor – a first from Okinawa.

Other bits like the LED illumination all around, a generous amount of chrome and a new LCD display all point to the fact that this could be the new flagship product from the company. Okinawa will be manufacturing this e-scooter at its new plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.

The Okinawa Okhi90 is expected to be priced at around Rs 1.2 lakh, and it will take on the Ola S1 Pro and the Ather 450X. Okinawa currently has almost 400 dealerships across India, and it has even opened two exclusive 'Okinawa Galaxy Stores' in Dehradun and Jaipur.
