Piaggio Updates Aprilia, Vespa Scooters With CBS & ABS

Scooters such as the SR 150, SR 125 and the Vespa VXL 150 now conform with upcoming safety regulations

Piaggio has silently updated all Vespa and Aprilia scooters with combined braking system (CBS) or anti-lock braking system (ABS), depending on their engine displacement. Starting April next year, all two-wheelers with an engine displacement of 125cc and above that are sold in the country need to be equipped with ABS, while two-wheelers that below 125cc require CBS as standard. The new regulations mean that the Aprilia SR 150 range and the Vespa 150 range now get the safety net of ABS. Both brands have also introduced the Aprilia SR 125 CBS and the Vespa 125 CBS.

The updates have resulted in a hike in prices of all the scooters. Single-channel ABS-equipped Vespa scooters now cost between Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 more than their non-ABS versions, while the premium for Aprilia SR 150 ABS is even higher at around Rs 9,000.  The addition of CBS on the Vespa 125 range has resulted in a price hike of between Rs 2,200 to Rs 3,700, while the SR 125 CBS is dearer by Rs 3,372. Apart from the addition of CBS and ABS, no updates have been made to the scooters. Deliveries for the first lot will commence in January next year. Check out the tables below for the revised prices.
