Platina Becomes Bajaj’s Best Selling Model In July

Published On Aug 30, 2019 04:06 PM By Gaurav Sadanand for Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear

Bajaj’s commuter bike registered a 31 per cent growth rate in July 2019

Bajaj managed to sell 52,489 units of the Platina last month alone. It sold 40,074 units in the same month last year. This comes amidst the slowdown in the two-wheeler industry.

Bajaj Auto seems to be unhindered by the slowdown in the Indian two-wheeler industry while others have been struggling to keep their heads above water. Part of the reason behind the current slowdown is due to the uncertainty regarding vehicles that still comply with BS4 emission norms while the government is set to introduce a whole new standard in April next year. However, Bajaj’s strong sales in various international markets as well as thoughtful changes to its lineup appear to be working in its favour. Take the Platina for example. The bike’s been performing quite well for the brand. Yet, Bajaj decided to update it to make it an even better product than before.

For a broader perspective, it managed to reel in 52,489 units in the month of July alone, making it the top-selling bike from the brand's portfolio. In comparison, Bajaj sold 40,074 units of the Platina range in the corresponding month last year.

What’s likely to have worked for the company is the addition of the Platina 110 H-Gear. This variant gets some segment-first features for a minor price bump of around Rs 4,600 over the outgoing disc variant. To delve into details, the bike gets a 115cc engine with a 5-speed transmission, the largest disc front disc brake in the segment, a semi-digital instrument console and a quilt pattern seat which gives it a premium feel. The H-gear also comes with a revised set of graphics to keep it looking fresh.

That aside, the bike’s party piece has to be its unique ‘Gear-Shift-Guide’. It’s essentially a gear assist indicator which not only displays the gear you’re in, but also prompts you to upshift or downshift to eke out better fuel efficiency.
