Project SR Is Building An Electric Dirt Bike
… using a Hero Impulse as its base
The Indian EV space is flooded with electric scooters. Electric motorcycles haven’t really caught on as yet, with focused-built motorcycles still some time away. With the latter in mind, Kolkata-based SR Motors seems to be working on an electric dirt bike. Dubbed the Project SR13, the electric adventure motorcycle seems to be one of the first of its kind to be built in India.
Ultraviolette Might Make An Electric ADV After The F77 Weird Flex: The Rungu Dualie Is Foolproof E-Trike For The Trails Weird Flex - Honda Grom’s Electric LookalikeIt seems like instead of fiddling around with chassis design and stuff, SR Motors wanted to get their electronic systems in place first. Hence, it has used the short lived Hero Impulse as the base. The suspension, swingarm and wheels seem to be lifted straight off the old small adventure bike. It is running the bodywork of a Honda CRF150 for now. However, it should get a unique look when it does go into production.
Motor and battery specs haven’t been shared as yet. But judging by their Instagram posts, particularly the one where it is being drag raced against a KTM 390 Adventure, the SR13 sure looks promising.
Low end torque is what you desire when you go off-roading and hence, dirt bikes will benefit highly from the instantaneous torque delivery that electric motors offer. Let’s hope that we get to hear more from the dudes behind the SR13 soon.
