Royal Enfield’s much anticipated electric motorcycle has been spotted testing for the first time in real-life in Barcelona. The spied images show how the company’s first electric motorcycle will look in a rolling concept form. 

The electric bike gets a split-cradle frame which uses the motor as a stressed member. The motor and the battery pack should give the bike a range of about 100km. That should be adequate for everyday riding and maybe some weekend breakfast rides. 

The spied bike looks similar to the one we have seen before in the patent filed by Royal Enfield. The test mule gets a round LED headlamp, rotary style switches, adjustable levers, indicators mounted on handlebar, tear-drop shaped panels which mimic the fuel tank, alloy wheels, round mirrors and a TFT screen which could be the same as the Himalayan 450. 

. The tyres too look skinnier than the ones we have seen on their ICE motorcycles. The girder fork on the front is most likely only for the concept. This fork is an outdated suspension type, since it has no actual benefits over a traditional fork, apart from looking really cool. It’s also quite complex to make and is heavy, which would unnecessarily increase costs and weight – something which RE would want to keep in check. The footpegs have adjustability sliders, but these seem to be only for testing purposes to explore the right ergonomics for the bike

From the earlier seen patent image, we know that the rear-end of the motorcycle looks like a hard-tail which is done by neatly hiding the monoshock. The rider’s seat is mounted directly on the main frame as there is no subframe as such. 

After looking at the construction of the frame, the battery seems non-removable. The battery specs are yet undisclosed but we expect the motorcycle to deliver a range of 100km on a single charge and will get a belt drive to propel the bike. 

Royal Enfield’s first electric motorcycle will be unveiled on November 4 2024 and will launch in India sometime early next year. We expect it to be priced around the Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go against the likes of Ultraviolette F77 and the Raptee.HV T 30.
