Royal Enfield Himalayan Spotted Testing Again, Clearest Spy Pic
The production-spec model of the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan has been spotted testing again. This time, we have a more clear picture of the test mule, which reveals some more details about the adventure motorcycle.
Aesthetics:
Looking at the picture, Royal Enfield Himalayan has been styled like a proper adventure tourer. The bike has all the features required to meet both the on and the off road riding conditions. It gets round shaped headlamp with a fly-screen at the front to provide wind protection during long rides. The fuel tank is shorter and has been designed to provide adequate knee scoops. The split seat of the motorcycle is looking comfortable and well cushioned for touring purpose and you can also see luggage pannier mounts at the rear. It also has an adventure motorcycle type handlebar for a perfect and ergonomic riding position. Both the front and rear fenders have been mounted high to compensate with the long suspension travel.
Engine:
You can see the new Royal Enfield engine in the picture, which is looking different than their 350cc and 500cc mills. The new motor is looking compact and it could be a square engine, unlike the existing long-stroke motors. Its displacement will be around 410cc and it is expected to deliver a maximum power between 28-42bhp. The newly developed engine will also have lesser vibrations and noise emission.
Frame and Suspension:
The frame of the RE Himalayan seems to be a single-downtube, double-cradle type, designed for extra rigidity and reliability. The suspension set-up is also looking much different from the other existing RE motorcycles. The front has been equipped with new hydraulic telescopic forks, having a protective covering. We can expect an advance linked-type suspension for addition of some extra comfort at the rear. Travel of both the front and rear suspension is also looking better than the current set-up on the RE motorcycles.
Wheels and Tyres:
The Himalayan will come with spoke wheels like the other Enfields, however, wheel sizes are looking different from the existing models. The front wheel in the picture appears to be a 19” wheel, while the rear seems to be a 17” one. Both the wheels are covered with Ceat Gripp XL tyres, which are made for both on and off road riding conditions. Most probably the size of the tyres are 90/90-R19 for the front and 110/90-R17 for the rear.
Brakes:
The braking system of the Royal Enfield Himalayan seems to get the Brembo calipers like their Continental GT. However, the design of both the front and rear disc are looking much different than any of their existing offering. The size of the front disc is looking around 300mm, which will get a double-piston caliper. The rear disc will be close to 240mm in diameter and it will be grabbed by a single-piston caliper.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is expected to be launched by the end of 2015 or early-2016 with a price tag of around Rs 2.10 lacs. It will be only of its kind motorcycle in the country, so there is no competition to fight from.
