The waiting period ranges from two-four months at present. In April 2019, the waiting period varied between four-six months for both the bikes. Mumbai and Jaipur have the lowest waiting periods. Buyers in Pune and Kolkata will have to wait the longest, at four months. The waiting period of Royal Enfield’s flagship 650 twins, the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 has gone down quite a bit compared to where it stood in April. It now ranges from two-four months, depending on the city. Here’s a list of the waiting periods in major cities across India:

Interestingly, there is no waiting period in Jaipur. It goes to show that the demand-supply equation is slowly balancing out, thanks to Royal Enfield’s efforts of increasing the production of the 650 twins. While both bikes have a similar waiting period, it is the Interceptor 650 that’s more sought after than the Continental GT 650 because of its inherent practicality and versatility. So much so, that Royal Enfield might as well be focusing on exports of the Continental GT 650 as the segment is still a niche one in India.

If you see the last three months’ numbers, the sale of the 650 twins has been increasing gradually. In the first quarter of this calendar year, the sales grew from about 1000 to around 1700 units and in April, the 650 twins crossed the 2000-units sale mark. That’s a commendable achievement considering the two bikes cater to the premium big bike segment. Royal Enfield has disrupted the market because of its extremely competitive pricing, and is making even prospective Triumph modern classic buyers think twice. On a side note, Royal Enfield has also started rolling out software updates for the 650 twins in order to improve their usability.
