Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 Spotted In India

Modified On Oct 28, 2022 08:55 AM By Bernard Mascarenhas for Royal Enfield Bear 650

There seem to be a few visual differences from the test mule spotted abroad

Last month, a 650cc Royal Enfield bike donning a scrambler-ish persona was spotted testing in the UK. Well, this bike has now been spied in India for the first time. A closer look of this test mule indicates some minor changes to the bodywork, though the fundamentals seem to be similar to the bike spotted abroad.

Even though the Scrambler 650 remains visually similar to its foreign version, there are a few differences, like the side panels, which are now more conventional, rather than the dirt-tracker styled large oval section. This upside-down triangle design looks very similar to the side panels seen on the Interceptor 650.

Additionally, the test mule spotted in India also sported a small flyscreen which could just be an optional accessory, similar to what is available for the Interceptor 650. Another optional accessory seen on this bike is an auxiliary light; however, unlike the auxiliary lights spotted on the Super Meteor 650, the brackets for these lights are connected directly to the frame, rather than the crash guard.

While there are a few upcoming Royal Enfield bikes sharing the same 648cc heart, like the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650, we hope that the company tweaks this engine to suit this scrambler’s nature. For perspective, the Interceptor 650 makes 47.65PS and 52Nm. What sets the Scrambler 650 apart is the two-in-one exhaust design, which will be a first for the 650cc lineup, as well as the upside-down fork, which also seems to be different from the ones seen on the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650.

As we saw earlier, the Scrambler 650 rolls on wire-spoke wheels wrapped in dual purpose tyres. The twin shocks at the rear are not gas-charged as the ones found on the Interceptor 650, however these appear to still be preload-adjustable. We also hope that the dual-channel ABS is switchable, to allow some sideways fun on trails.

The Scrambler 650 might look ready to hit the global market, however, Royal Enfield does have a long list of bikes awaiting launch, the most prominent being the Super Meteor 650 expected in November. That said, the prospect of a scrambler based on the 650cc platform is thrilling.

We expect Royal Enfield to price it between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom). For perspective, the Interceptor 650’s prices start from Rs 2,88,814 (ex-showroom Delhi). Once here, it'll go up against the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo 6 ½.
