Modified On Jan 2, 2019 07:55 AM By Mallikarjun Pillai for Royal Enfield Scrambler

The upcoming bikes will be based on the Royal Enfield Bullet range

Royal Enfield’s Scrambler bikes might sport the company’s ‘Trials’ badge from the ‘50s The bikes will be based on the Bullet 350 and Bullet 500, respectively Launch expected in the first half of 2019

The Royal Enfield Scrambler has caused a sensation among the brand’s fans ever since its images were first leaked on social media in June last year. And while initial impressions pointed towards a Classic 500-based Scrambler, a new set of pictures indicates the upcoming bike as based on the Bullet 350 and Bullet 500, respectively. But in a more interesting development, the report also says the bikes are likely to bear another long-forgotten badge from Royal Enfield’s illustrious past, the ‘Trials’.

The leaked pictures show the new bikes featuring all the essential scrambler design elements like a single seat, a tall handlebar, an upswept exhaust and spoked wheels at both ends shod with knobby tyres. These pictures also show the bike sporting a luggage rack in place of the pillion seat. Other notable design highlights include a short front fender that is reminiscent of the Interceptor 650 and a tear-drop shaped fuel tank that comes straight from the Royal Enfield Bullet. In the pictures, the frame of the Bullet 350 Trials can be seen with a red finish while that of the Bullet 500 Trials gets a green finish. In Europe, Royal Enfield already sells a Classic 500-based Scrambler in the form of a customisable kit that contains all the aforementioned accessories. We expect the new scrambler to get most of the features of its European counterpart.

Mechanically, both bikes will be identical to the Bullet 350 and the Bullet 500. The 346cc and 499cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engines produce 19.8PS and 28PS of power, respectively. We also expect Royal Enfield to launch both bikes with dual-channel ABS as standard. As for pricing, the new scramblers are likely to cost a shade more than the Bullet motorcycles. So while the Bullet 350 Trials is likely to cost around Rs 1.6 lakh, the Bullet 500 Trials might retail for around Rs 2 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
