Royal Enfield’s Electric Bike Will Be A Departure From Regular E-bikes
The veteran bikemaker has announced Rs 1,000 crore investment including EV development
Royal Enfield is set to bring a fresh perspective to the EV race, with something called “uniquely differentiated” electric motorcycles. CEO B Govindarajan in a recent analysts call, said, “I can say Royal Enfield's EV journey is in the top gear now. Our intention is to create uniquely differentiated electric motorcycles with strong Royal Enfield DNA.” What does this mean?
It reinforces the possibility that the upcoming electric bike from Enfield will have a retro design, something that’s a fresh departure from regular EV design and styling. It makes all-the-more sense as the retro genre is something the company already excels at.
Additionally, Eicher Motors, Royal Enfield’s parent company has announced an allotment of Rs 1,000 crore for the current financial year (2023-2024) into the development and manufacturing of both EVs and ICE two-wheelers. The bikemaker has also acquired a 60 acre land in Cheyyar, near Chennai to facilitate the production of the said EVs.

Lastly, the electric bike based on Royal Enfield’s in-house platform will debut sometime around 2024-25 and the prototype of the same is reportedly set to be unveiled this year. Expect the upcoming Royal Enfield electric bike to be priced at around Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
