Now brands cannot void your warranty as per new government policy

Looking to get your new bike/scooter fixed but the company showroom isn’t doing a good enough job? Maybe you’re considering getting it fixed by a third-party service centre but you’re worried about your warranty getting void? Well, the Government of India just introduced the ‘right-to-repair’ policy and it is a game changing framework for owners of two-, three-, four-wheelers and EVs too.

What is Right-to-repair?

A committee has been gathered by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (MCA) to develop a Right to Repair framework. The framework will allow customers to fix their items at the lowest possible cost rather than purchasing entirely new ones from the manufacturer.

In accordance with this framework, manufacturers have to provide customers with information about their products so they can do their own or outside repairs rather than relying solely on the original makers. Additionally, the framework aims to facilitate trade between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), third-party buyers, and sellers.

The good news is that the key industries covered under this framework (initially at least) are farming equipment, mobile and tablet devices, consumer durables, vehicles, and automotive accessories. This is a huge leap forward with regard to bettering the consumer-product ownership experience. While the framework is still in its initial phase, we can expect more brands to join the likes of Hero MotoCorp and Honda very soon.
