Suzuki Gixxer 250 India Launch on May 20
Update: We have ridden the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. Read the comprehensive road test review here.
There is a strong possibility that the new motorcycle will get a full fairing
Last week, Suzuki had released a teaser image of its upcoming two-wheeler. Set to be launched on May 20, it was speculated to be the new Access 125 or a new Gixxer or an all-new Gixxer 250. Now, the Japanese bikemaker has sent out an invite with a clearer silhouette of the front portion of a faired motorcycle. That and confirmation from our sources have led us to believe that the upcoming two-wheeler could be the new Suzuki Gixxer 250.
Now, Suzuki India’s 150cc Gixxer range has a different bodywork compared to the Gixxer 150 and Gixxer SF 150 sold in South Asian markets. Even the Intruder 150 and the Burgman Street 125 are products specifically developed for India. Considering these facts, we expect the new Gixxer 250 to feature a different bodywork when compared to the Gixxer 250 sold abroad. We expect the new 250cc motorcycle to be equipped with LED headlamps, LED tail lamps and a digital instrument console.
The Suzuki GSX-250R sold abroad gets a liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine. However, getting that motor to India could bump up the bike’s retail price significantly. In fact, that was one of the key reasons for the Suzuki Inazuma’s forgettable journey in our country. Instead, Suzuki may opt for a simpler 250cc, air-cooled and fuel injected single-cylinder engine with a power output ranging between 20PS to 25PS.
What remains to be seen is whether the Japanese brand will carry forward the underpinnings of the GSX-250R onto the Gixxer 250. The suspension setup is likely to comprise of a telescopic front fork and a rear monoshock. It could also get disc brakes at either ends. The upcoming bike could also be the first made-in-India Suzuki to feature a dual-channel ABS setup.
The upcoming Gixxer 250 is expected to be priced between Rs 1.4 lakh to 1.6 lakh. When launched, it will compete with the Yamaha Fazer 25 (Rs 1.43 lakh) and Bajaj Pulsar RS200 (Rs 1.39 lakh, all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Stay tuned to Zigwheels for more information regarding the upcoming motorcycle.
