Suzuki Gixxer BS6, Gixxer SF BS6 Launched

Published On Mar 5, 2020 05:24 PM By Praveen M. for Suzuki Gixxer 150

The naked Gixxer BS6 costs Rs 11,659 more whereas the faired Gixxer SF BS6 commands a premium of Rs 12,030 over its BS4-compliant counterpart

Suzuki unveiled the BS6-compliant version of the two motorcycles at Auto Expo 2020 in February. The two bikes make 0.5PS and 0.2Nm less than the BS4 versions. Suzuki also offers the Gixxer SF MotoGP Edition with a BS6-compliant motor. This motorcycle costs Rs 12,295 more than the BS4-compliant bike.

Suzuki unveiled the Gixxer BS6 and the Gixxer SF BS6 at the Auto Expo in February this year. Now, the brand has finally launched the motorcycles. However, the premium they command over their BS4 counterparts comes as a huge shocker. Here’s the price list:

Rs 1,21,900

Rs 1,09,870

Rs 1,22,900

Rs 1,10,605

While the Gixxer BS6 commands a premium of Rs 11,688, the Gixxer SF BS6 is Rs 12,030 dearer than the BS4 version. Suzuki has also updated the Gixxer SF MotoGP Edition to comply with the BS6 norms. It carries a premium of Rs 12,295 over the BS4-compliant model. The premium that these bikes command seems pretty excessive, considering they featured fuel-injection even in their BS4-compliant guise. To give you a perspective, the BS6-compliant TVS Apache RTR 160 4V costs 1,04,000 for the rear disc brake variant while the Yamaha FZ-S FI V3.0 BS6 sets you back by Rs 1,01,200. Suzuki has not offered any tangible features to justify such a high premium.

Moreover, the two motorcycles aren’t even as powerful or as torquey as before. The two bikes make 13.6PS at 8000rpm and 13.8Nm at 6000rpm. This makes them less powerful than the BS4-compliant version by 0.5PS and 0.2Nm respectively. The bikes retain the same 5-speed transmission as before.

Even the underpinnings have remained unchanged. This includes a 41mm telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, and disc brake on both ends with a single-channel ABS as standard. Visually, the bikes look identical to their BS4-compliant counterparts save for the additional catalytic converter near the exhaust header.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF BS6 competes against the Hero Xtreme 200S whereas the Gixxer BS6 goes up against the Yamaha FZ-S FI V3.0 BS6, upcoming BS6-compliant Bajaj Pulsar NS160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6, and Honda CB Hornet 160R.
