Suzuki Gixxer SF 250: Same Price, Other Options
From an adventure tourer to a street hooligan, here’s everything you can buy for the price of the recently launched Gixxer SF 250
Suzuki recently launched the highly-anticipated Gixxer SF 250 for Rs 1.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With a powerful motor, sporty design and a fairly tempting price tag, the Gixxer SF 250 has the potential to attract a lot of buyers. If you happen to be one of them but want to consider other options as well, here are four motorcycles you can opt for instead.
(All prices, ex-showroom Delhi)
Bajaj Dominar 400 - Rs 1.74 lakh
For 2019, Bajaj gave a comprehensive upgrade to the Dominar 400. Compared to the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, the 2019 Dominar 400 makes more power and gets more premium underpinnings. However, you do miss out on the sporty design of the Gixxer and the full fairing. But then again, if it’s a touring-focused bike you’re looking for, the Dominar makes for a better bet with its upright seating position and straight handlebars.

KTM 200 Duke - Rs 1.60 lakh
Potential customers also have the option of hopping on to a KTM 200 Duke and save Rs 10,000 while doing so. You get almost the same amount of power (25PS compared to 26.5PS) but considerably less torque (19.2Nm compared to 22.6Nm) with the KTM. But at 134kg (kerb), the Duke is around 27kg lighter than the Gixxer, which should give it an advantage in the acceleration and handling departments. There is a compromise in terms of design and features as it looks just like it did when it was launched way back in 2012.
Royal Enfield Himalayan - Rs 1.80 lakh
If it’s Ladakh trips you’re planning for, the Royal Enfield makes for a more logical bet. It gets a purpose-built design, a fairly powerful engine and underpinnings that are as capable off-road as they are on it. Though it might seem that the near-200kg kerb weight will be cumbersome in daily situations, the Himalayan manages to mask its flab quite well. On the flipside, the feature list on the Himalayan is as dated as the mountains it's named after.
Jawa (Dual-channel ABS) - Rs 1.73 lakh
Looking for a classic retro-styled motorcycle? Jawa has something for you. The Jawa, err… Jawa, plays the nostalgia card all too well. With its old-school design and the traditional maroon and chrome paint scheme, it does look like a tempting buy. Provided that you can actually ride it home soon, as delivery periods have extended to over a year now. Does patience as a virtue rank high in your own self? Then you might not feel the wait to be long.
